Coming back to blogging – what has happened in the last 8 years?

It has been 8 whole years since I last wrote a post on this blog. My last post, which outlined what was happening with Bonnie, was honestly when I went into a slump with horses as I just seemed to be on a roll of bad luck – I would get a horse, something would happen either to myself or the horse, and one way or another we’d be out of action.

Bonnie, after all of her treatment which was outlined on this blog, was not able to be ridden to the level that I wanted to ride. Due to my age and other commitments at the time, I was now responsible for paying for her myself, and between starting university and the ongoing costs of already having Tobias retired, Bonnie was sold to a lovely home in Donegal where she remains today.

At that point, we kept just Tobias for a year – we sold our horsebox, we sold the jeep, and suddenly literally one week later, I got a message on Facebook from Vromy’s owner offering her to me for sale. Vromy, who I owned before I bought Bonnie and started my whole blogging journey (she was featured briefly on my Youtube channel and a lot on my instagram, though). Of course, I took her up on it – I was in my second year of university, had a little more of an idea how to handle things, and re-purchased her.

Two years later, so now in 2021, I decided to sell Vromy as with no transport she was being wasted with me – and anyone who knows that mare, knows that she needs a job in life. Vromy could never settle in a field – we gave her a holiday once, because she had been competing every weekend for a few months, and she literally jumped out of the field over a 6ft hedge. Vromy is now living out her golden years in a home about 30 minutes away from me and I get updates on her regularly from our mutual farrier.

At this point – I had no horse. Tobias was only sat on every few months for a little walk down the road, and was getting progressively worse with his neurological condition. Tobias sadly passed away on August 8th, 2022. At that point, I was done with horses. I will go into more detail on how we knew it was the right time in another post, but it honestly is one of the hardest things we’ve ever done.

I sat on horses the odd time between 2022 and 2025, but I was never majorly missing the sport. I didn’t bond with any horse, or have any interest really in going near them. So what changed?

Being brutally honest… it took my life to implode and a series of unfortunate events for me to fall back in love with this sport. I left my partner of 4 years, moved back home (I had moved across to England in 2022), and when I came home my mum had a horse – Minnie. But I still wasn’t into it. I would help mum with her of course, but only if she was desperate. I really had no interest.

My hometown is growing at a rapid rate, and the builders had bought land which backed right up onto our yard. This building work was really agitating Minnie, who enjoyed a quiet life, and we ended up moving her to a friends house on Halloween, 2025. That was the day the equestrian sport sparked my interest again – why? That was day I met Magner (left). I’ve been hooked again ever since.

I really need to timetable myself time to blog. Because otherwise, I end up having to catch up a lot. So I guess I’m back to catching up. I won’t even promise to try keep up, because we all know, I won’t.

On March 6th, I rode Bonnie and she had been very excitable for her first day back doing polework per the instructions of our physio (I talked about that in my last post – click here to read it). She was going great! I talked about it on my Instagram – click to see the post.

On March 7th, Bonnie seen her physio again. Boo unfortunately went lame after her antics and the physio referred us to get investigative tests done to see what is up with her, so we headed to the vets on Monday the 12th of March, at 2pm. This was after the trot-up and Bonnie was dropping her pelvis on her hind end. The physio did not want to work on her without further investigation from the vet.

Every professional who works in the field listed in the title of this blog has seen Bonnie between August 19th, 2017 and September 18th, 2017 (yes, I have spent too much money. Let’s not remind me of my sad bank balance).

If you read my last blog, granted I posted it a very long time ago, so if you want to recap you can click here. Alternatively, the most relevant bit to this blog post is below;

“We had her booked in with our chiropractor before the event for August 21st – but I’ll make another post on what we’ve done since discovering that she is lame.”
